Like most cottages of this type in the locality at that time, there was no running water on tap. It had to be carried to the house daily in churns. It also had to be brought to the cattle in the fields too. It was tough work.

The water pump isn’t there anymore now, but the well and the stage remain, there’s also plans to re-install the pump. You can still find the stage there just at the junction next to the bridge.
